Starting March 28th, 2010 - a NEW triathlon team for kids ages 7-15

Coached workouts twice weekly - with experienced, FUN adult coaches

Goal Race - "I tri" Youth Triathlon at the JCC in Northwest Austin, May 23, 2010 (see workout times and details below)

Race distances: 

  • ages 7-10 (swim 100 yds, bike 3.1 miles, run .6 miles)
  • ages 11-13 (swim 200 yds, bike 6.2 miles, run 1.2 miles)

Team members will be perfectly prepared to do the race, and make friends along the way!

Spring 2010 Team Information:
  • 8 weeks of coached workouts (twice per week) starting Sunday, March 28th, leading to goal race on Sunday, May 23rd
  • Sunday run or bike (or combination) workouts starting March 28th at 9am (dates = all 8 Sundays from 3/28 - 5/17; see calendar below for details)
    • Note:  2 Sunday workouts are being moved to the afternoon - April 11th and May 2nd practices will start at 2pm.
    • Note:  There will be practice on Easter Sunday (April 4th) ; one make-up workout will be provided on Wed. April 7th for those that miss Easter Sunday (see full calendar)
  • Weekday swim workouts at the JCC heated pool, once per week starting April 1st (dates = Thurs. 4/1 & 4/8 at 4pm, Tues. 4/13 & 4/20 at 4pm, Wed. 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, and 5/19 at 6:30pm) ; Make-up swim practice times available on some Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays through April 22nd - see full calendar below
  • NOTE:  kids already actively and currently swimming (on an ongoing, organized, coached swim team) during the months of April & May (must be both months) can register for the Sunday run/bike workouts only at a reduced price (see fees below)

Spring 2010 Team Fees:
  • All 3 sports, 8 weeks (16 workouts):  $225 JCC members, $250 non-members
  • Just run/bike Sundays, 8 weeks (8 workouts) - JCC Piranhas Off-Season Swim Team members only:  Special discounted price $95  (to join the Piranhas swim group and do both groups, go to the "SWIM HOUSE" page)
  • Just run/bike Sundays, 8 weeks (8 workouts) - other organized swim team member:  $115 JCC members, $140 non-members
Fees include:  16 coached workouts, team technical shirt, weekly take-home workout plan, kid/parent handouts, sponsor's incentive prizes & discounted services, email access to Coach Lisa, race day support, lots of fun and friends!

For those that want more swimming than once per week, sign up for BOTH the triathlon group AND the Piranhas youth swim group for a discounted combination price.  For information on the Piranhas Off-Season youth swim team (also at the JCC), go to the SWIM HOUSE page.  There is an option during Piranhas registration to add on the Sunday tri-group run/bike workouts.

Team Minimum Requirements:
  • Participants must be between the ages of 7-15 (as of April 1, 2010)
  • Participants must be able to swim at least 50 meters continuously by the second week of the program (either front crawl or backstroke)
  • Participants must be proficient and stable riding a 2-wheeled bicycle (including ability to start and stop without assistance) - no training wheels allowed
  • Participants must be able to tie their own shoes
Equipment Requirements:
  • A functioning bike is required for all bike workouts that can be ridden on trails (knobby tires, mountain bike style required)
  • An approved bike helmet that is properly fitted - not allowed to ride without it
  • A Bathing suit - well fitted (one-piece for girls, jammers for boys recommended)
  • Fitted goggles
  • Proper athletic shoes (running shoe recommended) - must have laces, reinforced sole for impact (no Keds), and fit the child
Locations to buy any equipment will be provided to registrants, with discounts offered by our sponsors
Optional triathlon specific apparel will be recommended along the way, with discounts available
